Peter Desmond Wee Tian Peng (PDW) is an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya and a Registered Patent, Trademark & Industrial Design Agent. He graduated with a law degree in LLB (Hons) from the University of Malaya and holds a Master degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Surrey, London, United Kingdom.
As the founder of Messrs Ismail Sabri Wee & Wong, Advocates & Solicitors, Kuala Lumpur, PDW has over thirty (30) years of experience in Banking, Hire Purchase, and project conveyancing work. He handles Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB) intellectual property portfolios and real estate and development projects known as the “Nine Seputeh”, “Sentra Suite”, “Kalista Park Home” and the “Sentral Residency” projects. His specialized practice is in Intellectual Property laws and often prosecutes IP filing locally and internationally (including PCT filing), advises clients on IP registration, IP searches and IP enforcement through infringement actions in Court for Patents, Trademarks and Industrial Designs.
He is a legal consultant to ISW Intellectual Property Sdn Bhd (ISW IP) and advises on IP management and commercialization. He often helps GLCs, MNCs and SMEs to plan, manage and strategize their IP portfolios, review business plans, coach IP licensing and franchising. As a qualified SEAD (South East Asia Drafting) Course Patent Drafter, Peter advises inventors on the legal and technical aspects of patent drafting, claims and specifications. Through his vast experiences in the private and government sectors, Peter also assists clients in IP valuation and funding in Malaysia and in the ASEAN countries.
PDW is currently the Co-founder and Chairman of International Intellectual Property Commercialization Council (IIPCC) Malaysia, a Past President of Malaysian Intellectual Property Association and a former appointed Corporation Board Member of the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO), an agency under the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism.
He is one of the directors of the Asian Patent Attorney Association (APAA) Malaysia Berhad and a member of the Bar Council Intellectual Property Committee, the Bar Council Corporate and Commercial Law Committee, International Trademark Association (INTA), and The International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI). He is also an Award Selection Board Member of the Small and Medium Industry Association (SMI) of Malaysia.
