GDPR Glossary Also known as: DPO
An independent expert who advises on and monitors GDPR compliance — mandatory for some organisations.
A Data Protection Officer (DPO) informs and advises the organisation, monitors compliance, advises on DPIAs, and is the contact point for the supervisory authority and data subjects.
A DPO is mandatory for public authorities and for organisations whose core activities involve large-scale regular monitoring or large-scale special-category processing. Many others appoint one voluntarily.
